If you cannot receive email in Outlook, there are multiple areas to be checked, for instance the spam filtering settings associated with your email account, email-filtering settings in Outlook, display settings of the message, etc. Oftentimes, an accidently made change in any of the above settings could be the reason why you are not receiving new emails in your Outlook application.
Spam filtering settings
Your email service provider allows you to filter incoming emails based on certain criteria. These rules or criteria for discarding or receiving emails are found in the spam filtering settings. To check whether any spam filtering rules have been applied, you need to access these settings from the web interface. You can contact your email service provider to get a better picture of how spam filters work for your email account. If the reason for you being not able to receive new email in your Outlook is any of the existing spam rules, you may either have to remove it or modify it.

In addition to your email service provider, Outlook also allows you to filter incoming emails based on certain criteria. Mostly, the Outlook email-filtering feature helps you store emails into desired folders. To see the email filtering rules in Outlook, navigate to File menu, followed by Manage Rules and Alerts. Review the email filtering settings to see if any of them is blocking your incoming messages. If you still cannot receive email in Outlook, go to the next step.

Outlook allows you to display the messages based on specific criteria such as the date, size, time, subject, from address, etc. You can make Outlook display the messages based on the priority you set in. If you have accidently or unknowingly made any changes in these settings, you would not easily see the messages in the inbox. So, verify the message display settings.
To do that, navigate to the View button, followed by Arrangement. Following that, select Options and click on Display preferences. In the next screen, select View and click on the See more conversation options. Review the settings and modify them if necessary.
